Today, the students went shopping in the classroom. They were given $10 of pretend money and told to see how much pretend food they could buy. There were candy bars for $0.50, canned goods for $1, fruit snacks for $2, cookies for $3, etc. The students could not spend over $10 because that was their budget. We discussed what a budget is and why someone would need one. Students used their math skills to add the items they chose to add up to $10. Students took turns being the cashier and made sure their classmates did not go over their budget.
