Our class has been learning about plants and what they need to grow. We have learned that plants need light, water, and oxygen in order to grow. The students have learned that plants need these ingredients in order to make their own food through a process called photosynthesis.
Today, we went out to the garden to plant some flower seeds. Before we started our gardening, we read Frog and Toad Together: The Garden. The children laughed at the silly things Toad did to try to make his garden grow. After reading, the students carefully put the seeds in the soil and watered them. We will continue to water them, and hopefully we will see some beautiful flowers!

Today, the students went shopping in the classroom. They were given $10 of pretend money and told to see how much pretend food they could buy. There were candy bars for $0.50, canned goods for $1, fruit snacks for $2, cookies for $3, etc. The students could not spend over $10 because that was their budget. We discussed what a budget is and why someone would need one. Students used their math skills to add the items they chose to add up to $10. Students took turns being the cashier and made sure their classmates did not go over their budget.
